Surviving (and Actually Loving) Summer in Las Vegas

Hey, it’s mid-June and if you’ve been outside for more than five minutes, you already know: Las Vegas summer has officially arrived. The thermometer is climbing into the 100s, the pools are calling, and the mountains are glowing that perfect golden hour orange every evening. I’ve lived in Summerlin long enough to know exactly how this goes — and yeah, I still love it.

When I first moved here, I thought the heat would break me. Turns out, once you figure out how to do summer the local way, it becomes one of the best seasons in the valley. Here’s my honest take.

The Heat is Real… But So Are the Pools

Let’s be real — by 11 a.m. it already feels like you’re standing in a hair dryer. But that’s why every good Summerlin backyard has a pool (or access to one). My kids are in the water before breakfast most weekends, and I’m right there with them pretending I’m not checking emails from the shade.

If you’re house hunting right now, trust me: a home with a decent backyard or community pool is worth its weight in gold in June. Nothing beats coming home after a long day and jumping straight in.

Getting Outside Without Melting

Early mornings and evenings are still prime time. We’ll hit the trails at Red Rock Canyon before it gets brutal, or take a quick drive up to Mount Charleston for actual cool air and pine trees. It’s wild how fast you can go from desert heat to mountain vibes.

Pro tip from a guy who’s learned the hard way: hydrate like your life depends on it (because it kind of does) and keep a hat and sunglasses in the car at all times. Rookie mistake = instant regret.

Summer Events That Actually Feel Like Home

This time of year the city lights up in its own way. Kenny Chesney is taking over the Sphere later this month — perfect timing for some summer country vibes. Juneteenth Festival is happening this weekend downtown with music, food, and community energy that’s always a good time. And of course the pool parties, night markets, and endless shows keep things interesting without you ever having to fight the tourist crowds if you don’t want to.

Restaurant Week just wrapped up, but the good food scene never slows down. Nothing hits quite like tacos and a cold drink after a hot day.

Why Summer is Actually a Smart Time to Move

A lot of people wait until fall to look at houses here. But I’ll let you in on a little secret: summer buyers often get better deals and more attention from sellers. Inventory is solid right now, and you can really take your time exploring neighborhoods when it’s 105 outside (just bring water and good AC).

Whether you’re dreaming of a home with a resort-style backyard in Summerlin, something family-friendly in Henderson, or views for days further out, this is a great window to find it.
